Our vision is for BSPA to be the leading national peak body for Behaviour Support Practitioners across Australia.
Our mission is to advance evidence-based behaviour support through representation, support, and accountability for person-centred, safe, and effective practice that upholds and protects human rights. We do this by influencing policy and practice, promoting professional standards, and raising the profile of Positive Behaviour Support nationally.
About the BSPA Board
The BSPA Board of Directors brings together a diverse group of professionals united by a commitment to advancing the quality, capability, and integrity of behaviour support practice in Australia.
Board members come from a range of professional backgrounds, including:
- Behaviour support practice and service delivery
- Critical disability studies, behaviour analysis, and allied health
- Lived experience as family members and informal supporters involved in behaviour support
- Rights-based practice and disability advocacy
- Public policy, regulation, and governance
- Research and higher education
- Finance, law, and organisational management
This multidisciplinary composition reflects BSPA’s diverse membership and affirms its commitment to representing that diversity within its governance.
Commitment and Expectations*
Serving as a BSPA Director offers an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to BSPA’s planning and activities that advance behaviour support in Australia.
All Directors are expected to:
- Participate in Board planning, training, and performance review activities
- Attend at least 75% of scheduled Board meetings (approximately seven per year, held in person or virtually)
- Participate in the Annual General Meeting and any special meetings
- Contribute to specific governance or strategic portfolios
- Lead and contribute to at least one key project aligned with BSPAs mission and strategic plan
- Represent BSPA at relevant events, forums, and stakeholder meetings, where appropriate.
The expected time commitment is approximately 6–8 hours per month, depending on role and committee involvement.
Each Director serves a term of up to three years, with eligibility for reappointment in accordance with the Constitution. Directors may serve a maximum continuous term of nine years, unless extended by special resolution of members.
* It is recommended all nominees seek their own legal counsel before accepting directorial office.

Expressions of Interest are open until 17 November 2025.
Following the close of submissions, each candidate’s 200-word statement will be shared with BSPA members, who will be invited to vote for their preferred candidate. This process ensures that BSPA’s leadership continues to reflect the values, expertise, and vision of its membership.
